The Voigt Family: Let's Talk About Summer

Summer 2021....we came, we baseballed, we conquered.

If last year's pandemic meant that we had not as much baseball, we more than made up for it this year. All three boys returned to their first love, Little League. We played in Bastrop, because Smithville did not have their league up and running.

It was...interesting. The regular season had its ups and downs. Justin coached Brayden and Cooper in Majors and was an assistant in Lucas' Coach Pitch team. We went to All Stars, and Lucas' team came in second place in the tournament.

Brayden, because he was playing "up" in Majors for regular season, had his choice to be on the Majors All Stars or his own age group. He chose his own age group and as it turned out, there were no local tournaments--so his team went straight to the second round. Unfortunately, they were beat in the first two games, and then they were out. He had practiced every week for all of June, and the tournament was delayed several days from rain....so when it finally happened, it was bittersweet.

Cooper's team won 1st place in the first round. In the second tournament, they came so close to moving on, but in the last game they lost 6-4. It was such a hard loss, because they had been losing and then came back with a hit by Izaiah to be in the lead. Then, with Cooper pitching, the ump made a BAD call...it was a pitch that was clearly a strike and would have been the third out. But then the batter went on to hit and bring in runs. A heartbreaking loss, but a great game.

But that wasn't our whole summer! Let's see...Katlyn and Eric celebrated their belated wedding reception in May. Then we had VBS, a Rangers game, Gracie's first birthday party, 4th of July at Waterson, swimming at Grandma and Grandpa's, a baseball team pool party, Rockport with cousins, a cousin day at home, fishing in Pettytown, a Corpus Christi beach day with the Schuelke's, and several days of babysitting little nephews. And to top it all off, we ended the summer with Kalahari! I only took a few pictures of that weekend, but we had so much fun. What a summer!
