In June of 2019, we said goodbye to our neighbors across the street. Since we moved to this house in July of last year, this family had become so dear to us. Their kids, Meadow and Ellis, were about the same age as Brayden and Lucas. Once the kids started playing, they quickly became inseparable and quite comfortable with each other. As soon as we were home from school, they’d be running across the driveway to play. For endless hours all 5 kids explored our creek and built a fort in the woods. Ellis loved legos, so some days they’d all be inside Brayden’s room building. And for every minute they spent in our backyard, they’d be across the street at their house, playing on the trampoline or splashing on the inflatable water slide they put up in the hot summer months. On Valentine's Day they brought us over a tray of cookies, and on birthdays we ran over wrapped gifts and cards.
When we’d be gone for a little while, Ellis would say, “I miss my friends” and when he’d come knock at the door, he’d ask, “Can my friends come out to play?” . Truth be told, Ellis and Brayden loved each other a little different and always had a special bond.
When we heard the news they were moving, I was just devastated for the kids. I’d looked forward to many more play dates and adventures for them. But it wasn’t to be. Now, we stay pen pals and the kids look forward to reuniting sometime for a neighbor reunion.
